The struggles of Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja with English

In a podcast, CSK teammates Harbhajan Singh Ravindra Jadeja talk about their struggles with English and funny incidents surrounding that.

CSK is currently on a roll. After Faf du Plessis clobbered a six in the last over to take CSK to the finals, cricketers and fans alike are queuing up to congratulate the team. Amidst all the euphoria, veteran off spinner Harbhajan Singh has come up with a fresh episode of Bhajji Blast with CSK.

On the show this time was Harbhajan’s IPL teammate and fellow off spinner Ravindra Jadeja. The two discussed their trouble in speaking and understanding English and the funny incidents that came about because of that.

Jadeja narrated an incident when the spinner bagged the man of the match award against Sri Lanka at Cuttack and practiced English before going for the presentation ceremony.

“I felt like I will be the man of the match after picking up four wickets. I’d heard if a bowler was chosen the man of the match how he’s interviewed. So, I asked the questions and I answered. You have caterers in the dressing room. He felt I was placing an order. So he asked if I wanted anything? I said no, I was just practicing.

“I couldn’t tell him I was practicing speaking English in pressure,” the bowling all-rounder said said.

Harbhajan too shared a similar story on his tour of South Africa. The funniest part of his tale was that the interviewer asked him about Jacques Kallis and he replied about John Wright.

“I was the man of the match at South Africa. I saw stars. I refused to go down. I just couldn’t understand what he was saying. He asked about Kallis, I answered about John Wright. I said Wright gave me nice coaching,” said Harbhajan as the two could not stop laughing.

The Indian spinners also talked about a funny incident about Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar. Once, Akhtar had posted a picture of himself in a three piece suit and asked for feedback for his look on Twitter. To that, an Indian Twitter user had replied, “.@shoaib100mph order likh.1 butter chicken,2 naan , 1 beer.”
