England defeated India comprehensively by 86 runs in the 2nd ODI at Lord’s on Saturday. In the first innings, Joe Root put England in a comfortable position by scoring a gritty 113 before David Willey’s vital knock of 50 runs from 31 balls. The England captain, Eoin Morgan also scored a well crafted half century.

India’s batting display was dull, wickets kept falling at regular intervals and they were eventually all out for 236.

Although, the batsmen didn’t click yesterday, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who was able to bring back smiles in the Indian camp. David Willey was bowling the 48th over and Chahal was facing him. On the fifth ball of that over, Chahal hit a textbook straight drive and dispatched the ball to the boundary to hit his first four in ODI cricket.

The non-striker, Kuldeep Yadav was also all smiles to watch Chahal play the shot. The leg-spinner then raised his bat towards the dressing room, much to the joy of the Indian players who had a good laugh about the incident.

Earlier, in the first innings, Chahal took 1 wicket by giving away 43 runs in his bowling spell of 10 overs. England have now levelled the 3 match ODI series with the decider scheduled to be played at Headingley on Tuesday.

India succumbed to a humiliating loss against England last night, with MS Dhoni playing a peculiarly slow innings in the chase.

The Indian team will now have to regroup before the series decider and ensure that such a batting slump doesn’t happen again.
