Wayne Rooney on Manchester United: The club’s former superstar Wayne Rooney reflected on his career at Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney left Manchester United in 2017 for his boyhood club, Everton. The legendary English forward came to Old Trafford in 2004 and spent 13 seasons at Manchester United, and became the highest goalscorer for the club.

Throughout his career in Manchester United, Wayne Rooney became multiple Premier League titles, and reached the pinnacle of his club career in 2008 when he lifted the Champions League trophy.

Rooney also won a FA Cup in 2015, and lifted League Cup and various Community Shield titles. During his time at Manchester United, Rooney also became the highest goalscorer for the English national team.

As the English forward comes back to the national side for his farewell match against the US, Rooney talked to Manchester United and reflected on his glorious career at the club.

Wayne Rooney on Manchester United:

Rooney insisted that he misses the club, but left Manchester United at the right moment.

Of course you miss it, Wayne told Stewart Gardener for Manchester United. It was the highlight of my career, playing for Man United and I was there for so long. But it was the right time.

Rooney stated that he wasn’t in the part of Jose Mourinho’s plans towards the beginning of the 2017/18 season, and that it was the time he decided he wanted to leave.

“I wasn’t playing, first of all. I have always been a player who wants to play. Obviously, I spoke to the manager and it didn’t look like I was going to play, so it was the right decision and the right time for me to go.

“Obviously, you wish, the ideal situation was staying there and finishing your career there, but football changes. Different things happen and things happen for a reason.”

Rooney, however, said that he enjoyed his time at Manchester United and will come back to Old Trafford to watch a game during Christmas.

“I left with great memories. I had a new opportunity to go and play in the States. I had a great time at United, though, and again I am looking forward to going back and seeing a few of my team-mates, and a few friends from the staff who I have made along the way.

“I will be back over the Christmas period, at a game to watch them. The fans have been brilliant to me and it will be nice to see a few familiar faces when I go to a game over Christmas.”
