Who has Shikhar Dhawan replaced in India A squad for South Africa A series?

Who has Shikhar Dhawan replaced in India A squad: The selection committee has named the senior opening batsman in India A squad.

India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan will play two unofficial ODIs for India A in their ongoing series against South Africa A. The development has been announced by the selection committee who have made a change in the squad for the fourth and fifth matches.

Since making a comeback in the team after being ruled out of the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Dhawan played three T20Is and three ODIs during the ongoing tour of West Indies. Having registered scores of 1, 23, 3, 2 and 36 in five innings across formats, the southpaw didn’t have the best of tours.

Perhaps, it is in an attempt to give him some match practice before the upcoming three-match T20I series against South Africa that Dhawan has been added to the squad. Dhawan will play under his Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer in the fourth and fifth match on September 4 and 6 respectively in Thiruvananthapuram.

In Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar and Shardul Thakur, Dhawan will join other players who have played for India in the recent times.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar, who was also ruled out of the World Cup due to an injury, has now been ruled out of this series due to a thumb fracture. Shankar, who was part of all the five matches, will miss the entire series due to his injury.

Having last played for India in the World Cup, Shankar would be hoping to recover from his injury to press a case for comeback in the national team.

On the back of all-rounder Axar Patel’s all-round effort, India A had defeated South Africa A by 69 runs in the first match yesterday. Led by Manish Pandey, India A scored 327/6 in their allotted quota of 47 overs.

In was a quickfire 121-run stand for the seventh wicket between Shivam Dube (79) and Axar Patel (60) which aided India A in posting a formidable score. On the back of spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s fourth List A five-wicket haul (10-1-47-5), India A restricted the opposition to 258 in 45 overs.

Apart from Chahal, Patel picked up a couple of wickets whereas Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya and Deepak Chahar picked a wicket each.
