Why is MS Dhoni not playing today

Why MS Dhoni is not playing today: Chennai Super Kings captain has been rested for the 44th match of IPL 2019 vs MI.

During the 44th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians at Chennai, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not been included into their Playing XI.

Going by reports on ESPNcricinfo, Dhoni is down with fever and will not take part in tonight’s match. Middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu will keep wickets for Super Kings in Dhoni’s absence. With the toss yet to be happened, there is no confirmation on who will replace Dhoni in tonight’s match.

Vice-captain and senior batsman Suresh Raina will lead the side in Dhoni’s absence.

“It’s [back] alright, not showing signs of getting worse. With the World Cup coming, I need to be careful as that comes first,” Dhoni had hinted at missing the next matches post winning their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While Dhoni was expected to take rest because of his back, him getting ill was unforeseen. The 37-year old cricketer had earlier complained of back spasm during the tournament and even missed the away fixture against Sunrisers.
