AJ Styles reveals Vince McMahon’s reaction to his WWE debut. The Phenomenal Onemade his debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble.

AJ Styles has spent more days in the WWE with a title around his waist then without. If that does not tell you of the trust Vince McMahon has on the Phenomenal One then nothing will. Styles has been a fan favourite from the moment he stepped into the WWE and for good reason. Every time he gets into a WWE ring, he gives it his all and does everything he can to steal the show.

This trait isn’t exclusive to his stint in the WWE. This is in fact how he became the number one guy in TNA and why NJPW trusted him with the IWGP title. Fans have always admired Styles for his body of work and it showed when he finally made his WWE debut 4 years back in 2016.

While Styles was in awe of his reception, he has since revealed that the man who mattered believed it was merely a fluke.

“You’ve got to find a way to make a name for yourself and everybody has to do it,” Styles said on his Twitch stream. “It’s when you get an opportunity to get into the ring, you hope that Vince is watching or someone else. You hope that there is a reaction, right?

“That was the great thing that I had… the reaction that I got at the Royal Rumble 2016 was awesome. It was amazing, but Vince didn’t really believe that – [he thought] that it was a fluke, basically. That’s what he thought it was.”

Styles went on to reveal that Vince wasn’t very impressed with his in ring work either. However, he seized the opportunity given to him by the WWE Chairman and the rest is history.

“I wasn’t even going to be on RAW the next day, but they convinced him otherwise,” he continued. “I had a match and I think he was like, ‘Whatever, I’ve got guys that can do this’. And he literally told me that. But once Vince sat me down and said, ‘This is what I need from you’. After he told me what he needed, I had one chance to show him exactly who he wanted. And that’s what happened.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
