WWE News and Rumors: Current Champion Could Hold Titles Till SummerSlam and Join Hands With Former Rival!

Gunther’s dominant reign as the Intercontinental Champion is seemingly far from over. A spoiler report states that The Ring General has big things lined up for him going forward. The Imperium is also likely to grow after a potential addition of a new member. After a grueling triple-threat match at WrestleMania 39, the 35-year-old star successfully retained his IC Championship.

So far, Gunther’s run in the promotion has been nothing short of impressive. And the Austrian wrestler has, without a doubt, worked very hard to arrive at this juncture in his career. It was also earlier reported that Gunther is Triple H’s favorite. The leader of the Imperium is also reportedly the company’s next talent to receive the main event push. 

Spoilers regarding the future of Gunther and The Imperium

According to a Twitter user, Boozer 666, who is famous for his spoiler reports, The Imperium is set to grow bigger with the addition of the NXT star, Ilja.

It’s worth noting that Gunther and Ilja are no strangers to each other. The duo had a riveting match in NXT in 2020 when Gunther wrestled under the ring name, Walter.

Although Ilja came up short in the match, he took the Ring General to the limit. Ilja Dragunov’s addition to The Imperium will reinvigorate the faction. 

Moreover, the report also shed light on Gunther’s future in WWE. With SummerSlam not very far, Gunther could possibly have a match with major powerhouses of WWE. The report notes Bobby Lashley as one of the potential candidates. Furthermore, Brock Lesnar could also be one of the potential opponents for Gunther at SummerSlam.

During an interview with Daniel Cormier, The Beast Incarnate stated that he liked the idea of facing Gunther but also noted that he has no power over booking matches. The duo came face-to-face for the first time during the Royal Rumble match. The WWE Universe even felt the quivers from the magnitude of their face-off.

 

“It was just proposed (match with Gunther), and I don’t know if I don’t make the calls around here. It’s just one of those things. When this was proposed to me, I liked it because I like the challenge, and I like the matchup.”

It should also be noted that Gunther was reportedly pitched as Brock’s opponent for WrestleMania. It remains to be seen how soon we get to see the dream match between the two behemoths.
