Charlotte Flair’s return was not originally part of the Lana storyline
Charlotte is miles better than Lana is in the ring and many would have her over the ravishing Russian any day. Within this storyline however, Lana was more important. Nia would finally get her comeuppance. However, the absence of her victim in the fight took a bit of shine from the loss.
Once the injury angle was announced, many saw Charlotte returning. Before that however, “plenty of members” of the roster who were left in the dark about Flair’s return according to Fightful Select. The report claimed that several people in WWE stressed that Flair’s return was “not in the cards or considered” when WWE started building Lana and Nia Jax’s storyline.
Lana’s storyline was changed to fit in the Queen once she became available to them. One can only wonder how the original storyline was supposed to end but this was not it.
