Ric Flair discusses who should break his 16-time World Champion record

Ric Flair discusses who should break his 16-time World Champion record. He won his world titles across three different promotions.

Depending on the sources, Ric Flair has won 16 to 25 World Championships. While Flair has previously claimed the number to 21, the WWE offcially recognizes him as a a 16-time world champion (8-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, 6-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and two-time WWE/then WWF Champion).

The closest person to beat him is John Cena, who is also at 16 World title reigns. Flair is not opposed to the idea of Cena overtaking him one day. However, he believes that the record should be broken by a full-timer and made public his desire to see his daughter Charlotte Flair or Evolution stablemate Randy Orton break it.

Ric Flair discusses who should break his 16-time World Champion record

“I think every record’s meant to be broken, number one,” Flair told Wrestling Inc. “I couldn’t be prouder, I think the world of them both. To be honest with you, I would like to see my daughter break it. Randy Orton has expressed the sentiment to me too. Who knows? It’s funny because I would love to see Randy break it.

“John, I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to John breaking it, but I think the person that breaks it needs to be a full-time performer, just because I think it’s better for the company, not that it matters who the individual is. I got all 16 of them in 20 years. It’s hard to imagine, but I can see John, Randy or Charlotte doing it.”

Flair added that to break the record one had to be healthy and in great shape. Which he claimed Orton was before classifying Cena and Charlotte as  physical specimens that were second to none.

“You need to be able to stay in good health and stay in great shape. You can’t take days off. Randy had some injuries that he came back from. Those shoulders have held up for him. There was a time, I think, where they were career-threatening injuries, his shoulder, but he’s been great. He’s healthy. He takes good care of himself, and John, of course, is a physical specimen, second to none. Same as I think of Ashley.”

As was mentioned before, Cena has 16 world title reigns to his name in the WWE. However, he hardly makes an appearance in the WWE outside of Wrestlemania season. He has also said that he will not be there at this year’s wrestlemania. Which leaves Orton as the closest to break the record.

The Viper is curretly on 14 reigns and looks far from slowing down anytime soon. Charlotte also has 16 singles titles to her name and is likely going to have a chance to add to her 10 singles championships at Wrestlemania 37.

This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
