John Cena Sr. would have fired Sasha Banks if he were Vince McMahon. He went on to add that he liked the SmackDown Women’s Champion and didn’t intend to offend her.

Sasha Banks is one of the biggest stars in the WWE today. She was monumental in helping WWE steer through the rough course of the early pandemic days. Along with Bayley, she was on almost every show, every episode and worked very hard towards bringing normalcy to the promotion.

She was ultimately rewarded with the best year of her career. She became the first woman to win all three main roster titles in the same year. In the process, she also completed her Grand Slam, the third woman to do so in the WWE. Banks was also named Sports Illustrated’s Wrestler of the year!

All this however, would not have been possible had Vince McMahon granted her request to leave the promotion back in 2019. Instead, he gave her some time off to think about it and the rest is history. John Cena Sr. however, believes he would have handled the situation very differently.

While speaking to Boston Wrestling MWF’s Dan Mirade, John Cena Sr. said that he would have fired the Boss if he were the WWE CEO instead.

“If she refused to do the job [lose a match] or does the job and then says, ‘I’m gonna quit,’ in the words of the great Vince McMahon, I would say, ‘You don’t have to quit, you’re fired.’

As we know now, McMahon did not let her go. He gave her some time off and she ended up being one of their most important stars a year later. John Cena Sr. pointed this out as he explained the difference between himself and Vince McMahon.

“You know what, let me put it to you this way. Vince is a very intelligent man, he’s not where he is by being a fool. To give her what he gave her, that extension on time [additional time off after the 30-day agreement], says a lot about the man recognizing the talent.”

Sasha Banks will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Nia Jax next week on SmackDown. She is also scheduled to face Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler alongside Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Fastlane. Should she overcome Jax next week, she will take on Belair at Wrestlemania 37.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
