Real reason why Goldberg returned on RAW to challenge WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. The Icon will battle the Almighty at SummerSlam.

Bobby Lashley will face WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg at SummerSlam for the WWE Championship. The Almighty was looking for a challenger and the legend stepped up, telling Lashley that he was next, as he looks to win his first ever WWE Championship.

There are many fans who believe that the WWE could have done well giving Goldberg’s spot to someone else instead. However, according to Andrew Zarian, of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast, the choice to go with him was made for a very specific reason.

Zarian reported that the general feeling backstage in the WWE is that Goldberg is great for the demographic and he boosts viewership. He also added that criticism for the Hall of Famer comes from a relatively small number of vocal fans on social media and the majority of WWE fans actually enjoy watching him.

“Some more notes from my convo this morning with someone at WWE. Here is the reality, WWE NEEDS casual fans. Every single analytic indicator that the company uses shows that Goldberg is a big draw for them. “WE” may not like him returning but the majority of WWE’s fans do.

“The reality is we are the minority when it comes to Pro Wrestling viewership. Twitter is a fraction of how many people actually follow WWE content.”


This will be Goldberg’s first match since his loss to Drew McIntyre at Royal Rumble. Goldberg has been a World Champion numerous times in the WWE. However, he has yet to win the WWE Championship. He has previously won the World Heavyweight and Universal Championship.

Will Lashley continue his dominant run? Or Will Goldberg finally win the WWE Championship? It will be interesting to see who prevails at SummerSlam.
