John Cena comments on WWE’s reliance on ageing stars. The promotion has been reliant on part timers for their Super cards in the last few years.
The WWE have gone all in with SummerSlam. John Cena is back and so is Goldberg. In fact, this points towards a trend in the WWE. Barring the Pandemic Era, the WWE have continued to bring in part timers to give a quick boost to their product ahead of their Super Cards; Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series.
Many have criticized the WWE for their over dependence on their past stars instead of building up the talent they currently have at their disposal. In a recent conversation with Brian Truitt of USA Today, John Cena warned the WWE of the dangers of their current practice.
John Cena comments on WWE’s reliance on ageing stars
“Man, I wish there was some sort of fountain of youth where I could be a full-time contributor. The longer they continue to bet on an aging prospect, that makes (WWE’s) future a little bit less stable. I used to chastise people for not working as efficiently as the WWE. And as a young man, I failed big. I was judgmental and I was apprehensive and I wanted to be back in the ring because I loved that immediate gratification.”
John Cena is currently scheduled to face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
SummerSlam 2021 will take place on August 21, 2021, at Allegiant Stadium in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada. It will be the 34th event under the SummerSlam chronology.
