Eric Bischoff explains why Matt Riddle is unique

Eric Bischoff explains why Matt Riddle is unique despite playing a common character. Bischoff sees Riddle growing into a main eventer eventually.

Despite his skills in the ring, Riddle had a somewhat slow start to life on the main roster. He has been an excellent hand as far as wrestling goes, off late however, he seems to be impressing everyone with his character work. Turns out Eric Bischoff is the latest in a line of fans of the King of Bros.

While speaking with Inside The Ropes, Eric Bischoff was asked who he sees as the next main eventer. The former WCW head honcho was confident that that man would be Matt Riddle. He then went on to explain what makes his character is so interesting despite it being a common trope in other forms of entertainment.

Eric Bischoff explains why Matt Riddle is unique despite playing a common character

“As far as some of the younger talent or newer talent that are coming up who I think could be Main Event quality, I love Matt riddle. I, I just love him.”

“Not only do I like his character, because this character, isn’t that unique. I mean, he, he does that character uniquely well, but we’ve seen that type of character in other forms of entertainment. So what’s that like something we’ve never seen before? He’s got that what was that character from that movie? It was kind of like a, it was kind of like a burned-out skateboarder.

“But we’ve seen that type of character and other forms of entertainment. Matt does it so well. That’s what makes it unique is he does it so well and it’s so believable.”

Bischoff also spoke on Riddle’s pairing with Randy Orton and how it benefited both of them.

“I think the pairing of Matt riddle and Randy Orton is probably the best example of a great way to use an established talent. To have Randy Orton, who has been around for whatever it’s been 17, 18 or 20 years I don’t even know how long paired up with a guy like Matt Riddle, and elevate Matt in the process is the absolute perfect way to use establish older talent with a younger talent so that both of them benefit.

“Randy’s got a new lease of life as a character, not as a performer. You know, Matt riddle isn’t making Orton a better performer, Randy Orton is already at the top of his game, but as a character, this is like a whole new lease on life for Randy, the combination of Matt Riddle and Randy Orton, to me is like a really cool.”

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
