WWE doesn’t want Brock Lesnar to face Bobby Lashley because of Roman Reigns. The WWE Champion has long wanted a match against the Beast incarnate.
Fans have clamored for a match between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar since the Almighty returned to the promotion back in 2018. That however, hasn’t happened yet. With Lashley firmly placed in the main card then, there was no way the WWE could have booked him as a realistic opponent to the Beast Incarnate.

Cut to 2021 and Lashley is now the WWE Champion. He has been established as a formidable fighter and one that will not go down easily against anyone. He is exactly the kind of opponent that looks like he could give Lesnar a run for his money. However, it seems that the WWE still don’t want him to face Lesnar and this time it may have something do with a certain tribal chief.
WWE doesn’t want Brock Lesnar to face Bobby Lashley because of Roman Reigns
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that the WWE does not want Lesnar to face Lashley because a loss or a non-finish could hurt a potential program between him and Reigns. The idea is that with the Heyman history, there is a story to be told there and they don’t want it to be weakened by Lesnar returning to job for Lashley.
“The Lesnar match was talked about a lot but constantly denied. The feeling was that Lesnar isn’t coming back for a number of shows right now, so he’d have to lose. And those in the Reigns camp see Reigns vs. Lesnar with the Heyman history as a big program not to be weakened by Lesnar doing a job or doing a non-finish with Lashley right now. Like I’ve said before, in 1985 that would be how I’d see it, but today I don’t see a Lesnar lost to Lashley this year hurting a 2023 program with Reigns vs. Lesnar.”
Lashley is currently, character wise, the best he’s ever been. To quote Lio Rush, “he looks like money, smells like money”. It would be unwise for the WWE to not strike the iron while it’s hot. However, there have been many instances of the WWE avoiding dream matches for one reason for other.
Think Stone Cold vs Hulk Hogan or the Undertaker vs Sting. Hopefully Lesnar vs Lashley isn’t one of them and actually takes place one day. Although, the chances don’t look too bright at the moment.
