WrestleMania is the biggest show in WWE’s inventory. It is the show that helped put the promotion on the map. It was no different this year either, with WWE going all out in their presentation for WrestleMania 39. However, even with all their efforts, there is a belief that the in-ring action did not meet expectations. In fact, a certain WWE Hall of Famer believes that the recently concluded Backlash was much better between the ropes than its superior Premium Live Event.
The WWE recently hosted Backlash 2023 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This was the first WWE event on Puerto Rican soil since New Year’s Revolution back in 2005. Mark Henry recently gave the event a stamp of approval and claimed that it was even better than WrestleMania!
Mark Henry believes Backlash 2023 surpassed WrestleMania 39 in terms of in-ring action
During a recent conversation on SiriusXM’s “Busted Open Radio,” Mark Henry shared his opinion on Backlash. The WWE Hall of Famer claimed that bar the main event between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar, the Premium Live event far surpassed WrestleMania 39 with its in-ring action.
He said:
“The wrestling at Backlash was better than the wrestling at WrestleMania [39], minus the main event,”
His sentiments were echoed by fellow WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray. He stated that Backlash was just as, if not more, exciting than WrestleMania 39.
He believed that the crowd was emotionally invested in the performers that helped create a perfect blend of the audience and the superstars feeding off of each other to make an exceptional show for everyone involved.
Cody Rhodes, who headlined WrestleMania 39, also main evented Backlash. He faced Brock Lesnar in the final match of the night. There are a few who believe that the Bad Bunny match should have been the last on the crowd.
Despite what some may consider a blip on an otherwise perfect night, Backlash 2023 will still go down as one of the best shows the WWE has put on in recent years.
