WWE to have its own category at 2019 ESPYS

WWE to have its own category at 2019 ESPYS. The promotion will be getting a “Best WWE Moment” award under the Best Performance category.

The WWE continued pursuit of mainstream acceptance has landed them their own awards category at the upcoming 2019 ESPYS. The ESPYS, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, is a yearly award show that recognizes individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year prior to the annual ceremony.

This year the WWE will have a whole new category to themselves. They will get a “Best WWE Moment” award under the Best Performance category. The news comes shortly after WWE’s appearance at the MTV movie and TV awards where they were nominated under two categories. However, they failed to secure a single award as Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns came back empty handed.

Captain Marvel pipped out Becky Lynch’s historic triple threat match at this year’s Wrestlemania to bag the Best Fight award. Roman Reigns was nominated for his inspiration battle against Leukemia; A battle that the Big Dog won. However the wrestler lost out to Ruth Bader Ginsburg for the Best Real-Life Hero award.

WWE they did get a consolation prize though as Dwayne Johnson received the “Generations Award”. An award that is akin to the lifetime achievement award. Achievements from his time in the WWE upto now.

This time though, the WWE is certain to leave with a mainstream award now that they have a whole new category for themselves.

The nominees for the “Best WWE Moment” award are:

Roman Reigns’ return from leukaemia, Becky Lynch winning the RAW and SmackDown Live Women’s Titles at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, and Ronda Rousey winning the RAW Women’s Championship.

The ESPYS will broadcast on July 10 on ABC, and will be hosted by comedian Tracy Morgan. The event will emanate from the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California, United States. Voting can be done via the ESPN website

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
