Matt Riddle Risks Getting Fired After Being Written Off WWE Weekly Television

As reported by WWE on December 10, the Original Bro Matt Riddle will be missing in action for six weeks after Solo Sikoa took him out on the previous week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. Riddle teamed up with Kevin Owens to face the Usos for the coveted Undisputed WWE tag team Championships in a losing effort. Following the match, Solo Sikoa attacked Riddle with a devastating Samoan Spike and two running Samoan Wrecking Ball one of which was with a chair wrapped around Riddle’s neck.

Matt Riddle was wheeled out on a stretcher after the incident. Given that his absence from the ring will be for six weeks, it is uncertain if Riddle will be able to make it to WWE’s next PLE event, The Royal Rumble 2023. Now that we know about Riddle’s kayfabe reason for missing in action, let’s uncover the real reason why Riddle would be on the shelf for six weeks. 

Real reason why Matt Riddle is written off WWE TV for six weeks

Cassidy Haynes from Bodyslam.net reported that the real reason for Matt Riddle’s absence from WWE TV is that he recently failed a drug test for the second time. His first failed drug test was during the lead-up to SummerSlam earlier this year when he was scheduled to compete with Seth Rollins. However, the match was rescheduled to Clash at the Castle. 

The report further stated that Riddle was warned by the company that another drug test failure may result in a “fired” situation which is the exact shade of what happened with Jeff Hardy.

Riddle is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to return after six weeks, per the report. It is undisclosed what came up on the failed drug test but, it’s important to note that WWE no longer tests for cannabis.

Although Matt Riddle’s professional career in WWE is reaching new heights, the former tag team champion has had a tumultuous personal life. The King of Bros was accused of sexual assault by Candy Cartwright, an indie wrestler, in 2020.

Even though Riddle was exonerated of the accusations, his personal life with his now ex-wife Lisa Rennie spiraled down as the couple got divorced earlier this year. However, it seems that the Original Bro has a new woman in his life now.
