Vince McMahan announced his retirement from WWE last year. However, that didn’t last long. The WWE boss has returned to the company as the Executive Chairman and is currently arranging to sale the promotion. There have been several names mentioned as prospective buyers, but nothing has been decided. It was believed that Triple H and Vince McMahon were against the sale. However, it seems that the husband and wife were actually willing to sell the company and were completely up for it.

Vince McMahon successfully returned to power using his position as the controlling stockholder. With the highest voting power by his side, he managed to amend the company bylaws to ensure that a sale would not occur until he was directly related with the decision. This abuse of power was something Triple H and Stephanie McMahon reportedly feared and, to that end, wanted the company to be sold off.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon wanted WWE sale to prevent Vince McMahon from taking over
According to Dave Meltzer, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are not in opposition in the decision of selling WWE. In fact, they support it, albeit, for the sole reason of getting rid of Vince McMahon’s majority shareholder status. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:
“From what I am told, Paul and Stephanie, they are not opposed to a sale, and they knew that at some those Vince’s shares [he’s the majority shareholder for B-class stock] were an albatross, and at some point, somebody had to get rid of those shares anyway or Vince would take over.”
This report conflicts with a prior story about from AXIOS, who claimed that the then WWE Chairwoman and current Chief Content Officer had opposed the sale.
However, now it seems that the two were tired of Vince McMahon having the ability and controlling power to take the company hostage any time he desired.
Triple H told WWE talent he was still in charge of creative
Since Vince McMahon’s return to WWE, there has been a lot of concern regarding Triple H’s position. Many believe that it is only a matter of time before the WWE patriarch gets his hands on the control of the on-screen product. This very concern is also reportedly shared by the talent and according to Fightful, the Game addressed the situation with them before SmackDown.
According to the report, Triple H confirmed to them that Vince McMahon had indeed returned, but diffused rumors that the company had already been sold.
He also assured the talent that the ongoing situation would not change the current creative direction. However, he also admitted that while he was still in charge of creative, anything could happen in the future before thanking them and acknowledging that he understood why they would be concerned.
