Xavi in line for Barcelona return

Xavi is lined up for a return to Barcelona.

Xavi Hernandez is one of the greats to have represented Barcelona. The midfield duo of Xavi and Andres Iniesta were toying around opponents for fun when they were at peak of their game.

During the last season, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were able to secure 100 points in a single campaign, but the Barcelona he built which won every available trophy during one season will be the best ever in the last decade.

The team not only consisted of Lionel Messi, but the Argentine was surrounded by world-class players including Thierry Henry, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Samuel Eto’o, Carlos Puyol, Eric Abidal, Dani Alves, David Villa, and Victor Valdes.

Xavi is an academy graduate and made his debut under the management of Louis Van Gaal in 1998. Since then, he went to make 767 appearances and scored 85 goals in the process. His team accomplishment speaks volumes about his greatness, winning 25 trophies during his fun-filled career at Nou Camp.

After ending his 17-year stay at Barcelona, the midfielder decided to head to Qatar to represent Al Saad, where is representing the Asian outfit for the fourth consecutive year. After the winning three titles in the middle east of Asia, the 39-year-old has decided to quit his professional career at the end of the season.

Victor Font, who is a candidate to become Barcelona’s president has said that he would like to work with Xavi Hernandez should be onboard as vice-president at Catalonia.

“I’m in tune with Xavi, in relation to the project, and personally I love talking to him about football.

“I hope he can lead our footballing project.

“We have a lot of challenges for the next five or 10 years.

“A key one, and one of the first, is the management of the end of Lionel Messi (as he gets towards retiring).”

Xavi is an ambassador for the 2022 World Cup, and Font is already seen as a frontrunner for the president role despite the elections not being conducted until 2021.

It is also understood that Carlos Puyol is also backing the idea of having Xavi Hernandez as Vice-President at Barcelona soon or rather than later. If Victor Font and Xavi Hernandez decide to take over the club in 2021, they will have a huge task in finding the replacement for Lionel Messi who will be 33 at that point of time.

Xavi, who understands the club will be an ideal person to work behind the closed doors. The Blaugrana faithful will surely love to have him back at Nou Camp, wouldn’t they?
