India rode on Shikhar Dhawan’s superb century to win the third ODI and complete a 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka yesterday night in Vizag.

In Virat Kohli’s absence, Rohit Sharma carried out the captaincy duties as the Mumbai Indians skipper led his nation to yet another series win this season.

After a disappointing batting display in the first ODI, India got back to winning ways in Mohali as they were led by Rohit’s magnificent double century.

Although he did not click with the bat in the third ODI, Rohit’s influence on the young team was quite obvious throughout.

Rohit Sharma was there at the post-match presentation to give some insights on his players’ performances and mentioned some of the biggest positives from the series win.

“Youngsters bring a lot of energy, enthusiasm and talent to the group and it’s a perfect time to try them,” Rohit added.

“They have done well in the shorter formats and I’m sure they are ready for all the upcoming challenges,” Rohit said.

One of the examples that Rohit cited was Shreyas Iyer’s exceptional quality. The skipper was completely impressed by Shreyas’ performances that will surely see him get an extended run in the squad.

Having scored a crunchy 65 in today’s match and a productive 88 in the previous match, Shreyas Iyer has managed to grab his chance and show the selectors that he is ready to get a run in the side.

“The batting of Shreyas Iyer was a big positive. He showed a lot of intent. The way he came out and batted was brilliant.

We never felt from the outside that he’s played only a couple of games. We felt that he’s already been there for a long time. He batted fearlessly and got the result he wanted,” Rohit concluded.
