For the first time in his ODI career, Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has entered the Top 10 Bowlers rankings. To receive a significant jump along with him was Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who made a comeback into the ODI side after more than a year during the Asia Cup.
In the three and four matches that Chahal and Jadeja played in the ODI series against Windies, they picked up five and seven wickets respectively. Chahal moved up by three places to become the joint No. 8 ranked bowler with England’s Adil Rashid.
On the other hand, Jadeja leaped 16 places to be placed at No. 25 now. Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up six wickets in three matches maintained his No. 1 spot with a career-best 841 points under his belt.
Akila Dananajaya, who emerged as the highest wicket-taker (nine wickets in five matches at an average of 19.22, an economy rate of 5.37 and a strike rate of 21.4) in the recently concluded ODI series between Sri Lanka and England, jumped eight places to the 13th spot in the rankings.
Windies’ duo of Shai Hope (250 runs in five matches at an average of 62.50 and a strike rate of 81.96) and Shimron Hetmyer (259 runs in five matches at an average of 51.80 and a strike rate of 140), who were the top-two scorers for their side against India, took major leaps to reach No. 25 and No. 26 respectively in ODI rankings.
Ambati Rayudu, who has all but cemented his spot at No. 4 in India’s ODI line-up, moved up by 24 places to No. 48.
Among the batsmen, Indian star-duo of captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who are in the middle of an inhuman patch, retained their No. 1 (899 points) and No. 2 (871 points) ranks respectively.
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 112 runs in five matches at a paltry average of 22.40 and a strike rate of 88.88, dropped down by four spots to No. 9. Former captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni maintained his spot at No. 21.
