McVay Plays Things Smart With Myles Garrett Amid Lower-Body Soreness at Training Camp
Myles Garrett missed his third consecutive Los Angeles Rams training camp practice on Sunday due to lower-body soreness, but head coach Sean McVay expressed no concerns. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is also expected to sit out Monday’s session, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.
Speaking to reporters at Rams training camp, McVay addressed Garrett’s absence after the session.
“He has a little soreness in his lower half, but he – nothing to worry about. We are erring on the side of being smart with him.”
Lower-Body Soreness, No Structural Concern
The Rams have not disclosed a specific injury beyond lower-body soreness. He is expected to return when the team resumes its next scheduled practice block before relocating back to the Woodland Hills facility.
Garrett is not alone in receiving a measured workload. Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams, and Byron Young have all seen lighter-than-usual camp usage, suggesting the Rams are managing their veteran core deliberately rather than reacting to a series of isolated injuries.
Garrett arrived in Los Angeles as the centerpiece of the Rams’ defensive rebuild, a move that cost the team significant draft capital. Any absence draws attention because of that investment, and Garrett himself has made no secret of why he came here.
Three missed August practices do not constitute a crisis. But the Rams open the 2026 season in Melbourne, Australia against the San Francisco 49ers, which compresses the timeline for getting their best players synchronized. McVay has shown throughout this camp that he would rather protect players now than chase reps in August.
The next update to watch is whether Garrett returns for the final practice block before the team breaks camp.
