Von Miller has agreed to sign with the Dallas Cowboys. Miller, who grew up in the Dallas suburb of DeSoto, Texas, signed a one year contract with the team he grew up following.

“I always had a little blue on my heart since I was a little boy, and always paid attention to the Dallas Cowboys,” Miller said, told the Nightcap podcast.

TheSportsRush previously covered his not-so-subtle social media hints about wanting to wear the star. Now it’s official.

Miller’s Dream Within a Dream

Miller explained that the Cowboys were the first team to reach out after he left the Washington Commanders, roughly a week before training camp. He said it just seemed right to him.

“To be back here, to be back home, it’s a dream within a dream,” he said after the move was confirmed.

He tied the Cowboys to his earliest football memory. Miller recalled hearing his father celebrating in another room as a kid, only to run in and find out the Cowboys had just scored a touchdown.

Miller lives in Texas during the offseason, and his parents and children are based there too. At 37 years old, he may well finish his career in Dallas.

Why Miller Fits the Cowboys

Miller managed nine sacks despite starting only three games for Washington last season and playing roughly 37 percent of the defensive snaps.

He will play in a rotational role at Dallas, a designated pass-rush specialist who can spell younger edge players and still generate pressure on passing downs.

“I can still walk in the 8 to 10 sacks now,” Miller said. “That’s just walking in.”

Miller called himself the best teammate in NFL history and said there’s not a locker room he’s been in where a teammate would have anything negative to say about him. He was the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and twice finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting (2012, 2016).

What This Means for Dallas

The Cowboys are chasing bigger things this season, and the front office’s aggressive offseason moves reflect that urgency. Dallas has made no secret of its championship timeline, and adding a proven veteran presence to the pass rush fits that broader push. With the Cowboys setting real playoff expectations, every low-cost, high-upside addition carries extra weight.

Miller isn’t walking in expecting to be the centerpiece of the defense. He’s walking in as a situational weapon and a mentor, on a contract that costs Dallas little and could pay off significantly if he stays healthy through the fall.

Several fans responded to the player announcing the move on Instagram with posts saying, “Welcome home”.
