Ajinkya Rahane to Delhi Capitals: DC are aiming to bring onboard another high-profile cricketer for the next season of IPL.

Delhi Capitals are in talks with Rajasthan Royals captain Ajinkya Rahane for bringing him onboard for the next season of the Indian Premier League. Delhi had previously traded three players with Sunrisers Hyderabad to acquire their opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan for IPL 2019.

Having scored 521 runs in 16 matches at an average of 34.73 and a strike rate of 135.67 including five half-centuries, Dhawan becoming Capitals’ highest run-scorer in this IPL proved their decision to include him as a masterstroke.

“Yes, DC is trying to get [Ajinkya] Rahane onboard, but too early to say if the deal will see the light of the day. A lot of things need to be taken care of before the dotted line is signed.

“RR’s [Rajasthan Royals] take on the whole issue can also not be discounted since he has been a huge ambassador for them. But yes, talks are on,” a source close to DC was quoted as saying to IANS in a recent interview.

If DC manage to rope in Rahane, they will have another experienced Indian cricketer in their team. Rahane’s presence will increase their Indian crop of batsmen to Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant.

“The side has attempted to get the right balance between youth and experience and what Rahane brings to the table isn’t something one needs to talk about. It is there for all to see. [Shikhar] Dhawan and Ishant Sharma showed what having experienced heads in the dug-out means when the situation is tough and this could be a dream move if sealed,” the source added.

In the 14 matches which Rahane played for Royals, he scored 393 runs at an average of 32.75 and a strike rate of 137.89 including one century and half-century each. Overall in the IPL, Rahane has amassed 3,820 runs in 140 matches at an average of 32.93 and a strike rate of 121.92 including two centuries and 27 half-centuries.
