Chandigarh police demands INR 9 crore from BCCI; denies security ahead of India vs South Africa 2nd T20I
Chandigarh police demands INR 9 crore from BCCI: A controversy has occurred around the second India vs South Africa T20I.
The second T20I of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Mohali has come under the scanner after Chandigarh Police has denied providing any security to both the teams. It all happened after the teams reached Mohali airport from Dharamsala yesterday.
While Mohali Police received the teams at the airport and followed the usual security protocol, they only performed their borders in the Mohali region. Once the team buses entered Chandigarh, they were without the Chandigarh Police.

While the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium is in Mohali, teams generally stay in a renowned hotel in Chandigarh. It is due to this reason that teams have to enter the Union Territory.
Since the security of international players is a massive concern, the local authorities have hired private security agencies which are with both the teams in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh police demands INR 9 crore from BCCI
It is believed that Chandigarh Police have decided to deny any service to the teams due to BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) pending bill payment of INR 9 crore towards them. The time period of this bill cycle remains unknown at this point in time.
Chandigarh Police’s strong stand against the cricket board can be justified citing the amount involved. However, them involving in such a protest at a crucial juncture had brought many problems for both the BCCI and the Punjab Cricket Association.
