Why MS Dhoni has opted for break: The legendary Indian wicket-keeper batsman recently extended his sabbatical from international cricket.

Former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been in the news lately despite not playing international cricket since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in July. The 38-year old cricketer’s status is such that there have been plentiful speculations about his future.

With no official word coming in from Dhoni, anything and everything being said about him is believed to hold value. Dhoni’s retirement speculations had done the rounds to such an extent that MSK Prasad and Sakshi Dhoni had to clear the air regarding the same.

The veteran cricketer has recently defeated Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and India captain Virat Kohli in the list of most admired men in India.

Why MS Dhoni has opted for break from international cricket

While Dhoni missed the West Indies tour due to his training for the parachute regiment of the Indian Army in Kashmir valley, there is no official reason why he missed the South Africa T20Is.

Most recently, a report also claimed that Dhoni will continue to remain unavailable for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Having said that, a latest development regarding Dhoni is that he made himself unavailable citing a couple of injuries that he succumbed to during the World Cup.

While Dhoni had suffered a hairline fracture in his finger during the World Cup, he is also believed to have aggravated a back injury which he suffered during IPL 2019. The same was reported by a BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) source in an interview with The Indian Express.

With Dhoni ruling himself out of the Bangladesh T20Is, it will be interesting to watch if he makes himself available for the ODI series against West Indies in December.
