WATCH: Sheldon Cottrell appreciates Rohit Sharma’s century after ‘salute celebration’
Sheldon Cottrell appreciates Rohit Sharma’s century: The West Indian bowler put on display an apt ‘Spirit of the Game’ moment.
During the second ODI of the ongoing West Indies’ tour of India in Visakhapatnam, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma scored his 28th ODI century in yet another match-winning innings.
While he looked set to cross the 200-run barrier for the fourth time in his ODI career, he missed out on the milestone after getting out to West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell in the 44th over. The 32-year old player ended up scoring 159 (138) with the help of 18 fours and five sixes.
Opening the batting with Lokesh Rahul, Sharma shared a 227-run opening partnership as both the Indian openers went on to score individual centuries.
It was Cottrell who picked two Indian wickets in the first ODI to make early inroads. With the Indian openers not getting out to Cottrell in the first powerplay, it aided them to post a big score.
After dismissing Sharma, Cottrell put on display his archetype “salute celebration”. Having said that, the left-arm pacer made sure that he congratulated Sharma for a magnificent century just as the latter was walking back to the pavilion.
Cottrell’s gesture was admired by one and all for he appreciated the opposition batsman despite celebrating his wicket.
