Sai Praneeth upsets Kidambi Srikanth to win the Singapore Open Super Series
Sai Praneeth emerged winner of Singapore Open Super Series by beating Srikanth Kidambi 17-21,21-17,21 in the All-India men’s final. This is the first time in the history of badminton, two Indians clashed in a Super Series final.
The former world No 3, Srikanth looked in fine touch as he over-ranned his Indian opponent and coming up with hard smashed for-hand winners to which Praneeth had no reply. The first was well fought between the two, but Kidambi always had an edge and that made him win the game 21-17. The second game started with Praneeth’s aggression to square things off. He was 1-6 down at a point but came back stronger to stay alive and push the match to a decider, to which he became successful and eventually won the game 21-17. Praneeth carried the rhythm he had in the second game into the third and completely outplayed Kidambi who looked a bit tired and failed to win points from long rallies. From 11-6, Praneeth didn’t looked back and won the third game comfortably 21-12 to clinch his maiden Super Series title.
