WATCH: Ball lost after Trent Boult’s awkward defense off Mitchell Starc; Nathan Lyon bursts into laughter
Trent Boult’s awkward defense off Mitchell Starc: The Kiwi tail-ender put on display a hilarious moment while batting at the MCG.
During the third day of the second Test of the ongoing New Zealand’s tour of Australia in Melbourne, New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult put on display a hilarious moment while batting in the middle against Australia spearhead Mitchell Starc.
It all happened on the third delivery of the 53rd over when Boult moved to all parts of the crease to eventually inside-edge a delivery from Starc who was bowling around the wicket.
Just as the ball made contact with the bat, the short-leg fielder went to collect it but to his and everyone else’s surprise that ball was nowhere to be found. It was later known that the ball had stuck in between Boult’s batting pad.
Upon realizing the same, Australia spinner Nathan Lyon and non-striker Neil Wagner were seen bursting into laughter.
Another shambolic batting performance from the visitors saw them getting bundled out for 148 in 54.5 overs. Having scored 50 (144) with the help of four fours, New Zealand opening batsman Tom Latham was the pick of their batsmen.
With bowling figures of 17-5-28-5, Australia vice-captain Pat Cummins was the pick of their bowlers in the first innings.
At stumps, Australia have scored 137/4 in 45 overs in the second innings to gain a 456-run lead. With Matthew Wade and Travis Head batting in the middle, the hosts would be looking to score some quick runs tomorrow morning before declaring their innings.
