Ravindra Jadeja catch vs New Zealand: The Indian all-rounder stood tall on his reputation of being among the best modern-day fielders.

During the second day of the second Test of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Christchurch, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja put on display an awe-inspiring fielding effort to dismiss New Zealand fast bowler Neil Wagner.

It all happened on the last delivery of the 72nd over when Wagner hooked a short delivery from India pacer Mohammed Shami.

While the first look of the shot suggested it to travel for a six, it wasn’t case as Jadeja did his thing at the square leg boundary. Standing some feet away from the boundary, Jadeja timed his leap to perfection before grabbing the ball with one hand to register a stunning attempt.

With Kiwi pacers in Kyle Jamieson (49) and Neil Wagner (21) joining hands to share a 51-run partnership for the ninth wicket, it was vital for the visitors to dismiss either one of them.

Jadeja’s near-improbable catch played a huge role in India gaining a 7-run first innings lead as the hosts were bundled out for 235 in 73.1 overs.

Having scored 52 (122) with the help of five fours, New Zealand opening batsman Tom Latham was their highest run-scorer. With bowling figures of 23.1-3-81-4, Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers. Apart from Shami, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja picked three and two wickets respectively.
