Harsha Bhogle on MS Dhoni: “Don’t think he would be looking at ICC T20 World Cup 2020”
Harsha Bhogle on MS Dhoni: The renowned sports presenter has opined against MS Dhoni’s international comeback.
Veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s stature is such that he remains in the news even without playing competitive cricket for more than eight months now.
Dhoni, who last played for India during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, missed the West Indies tour (and all subsequent series) last year due to his training for the parachute regiment of the Indian Army in Kashmir valley. Dhoni was in the news in January when his name wasn’t to be found in the list of annually contracted Indian players.
Dhoni’s plentiful fans were awaiting for the next season of the Indian Premier League to watch their favourite cricketer take the field. Having said that, with IPL 2020 getting postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the fans’ wait has increased by at least 15 days.
Harsha Bhogle on MS Dhoni
Dhoni, who is among six Indian players for whom playing IPL 2020 is a must, mostly refrains from revealing his future plans. As a result, it is almost improbable for one to guess his next course of action regarding his international comeback.
In a recent interaction with Cricbuzz, renowned sports presenter Harsha Bhogle has opined that he doesn’t see Dhoni taking part in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020.
Bhogle didn’t question the 38-year old player’s skill to press a case in the national team but laid emphasis on how his gut makes him feel that Dhoni wouldn’t be looking at the showpiece event in Australia later this year.
“It’s absolutely impossible to know what Dhoni is thinking, don’t think even Dhoni’s shadows know what he is thinking. That’s how close he keeps his cards to his chest.
“But this is my gut feel. I had said it when he gave up the captaincy, or when he walked away from Test cricket… just like that Dhoni won’t grandstand his exit. One day you will realise that Dhoni is gone. That he has quietly slipped away and doing his own thing and that is why my gut feel is that his India ambitions might be over. I don’t think Dhoni would be looking to September-October, October-November for the ICC T20 World Cup. Maybe, if he had a great IPL, he might. But my gut feel is that it was beyond him,” Bhogle was quoted as saying.
