CDU Top End T20 2020: Cricket set to resume in Australia this weekend
CDU Top End T20 2020: Australia will be conducting their first competitive tournament in Darwin this weekend.
After the Vanuatu T10 League 2020, Vincy Premier T10 League 2020 and the Finnish Premier League T20 2020, cricket is now all set to resume in Australia in the form of the CDU Top End T20 2020 which will commence from June 6.
Darwin, which has been allotted Australian summer’s opening fixture against Zimbabwe most recently, will host the Top End T20 2020 as well. The eight-team tournament will be played across three days with the final being conducted on June 8.
As far as the venues for the tournament are concerned, Marrara Cricket Ground, Gardens Oval and Cazaly’s Oval will host the matches which will start at 10 AM and 02:30 AM local time each day. The biggest development is regarding the entry of up to 500 spectators in all the venues.
It is worth mentioning that Australia had hosted New Zealand behind closed doors at the SCG in March. The three-match series had to be postponed in the wake of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.
Making strides towards resuming the sport, Cricket Australia have been quite vocal about the future of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 and India’s tour of Australia which is scheduled to follow the world event.

Providing details about the tournament, Darwin Cricket Management chairman Lachlan Baird had duly mentioned that he is waiting for an answer from Cricket Australia with respect to using a wax polish to shine the ball in the absence of saliva.

“Cricket Australia is still very strong at the moment that they will not necessarily follow the ICC direction that sweat can be used and any wax applicator will not be banned. They are still exploring that. Fortunately it should not be too much of an issue with our T20 competition this weekend,” Baird was quoted as saying NT News.
While none of the matches will be televised anywhere in the world, as many as six matches will be streamed live on the MyCricket Facebook page.
