“Hope we will be close to Mercedes” says Red Bull star Max Verstappen on rivalry with Mercedes
“Hope we will be close to Mercedes” wished Red Bull star Max Verstappen on his team’s rivalry with Mercedes ahead of revised F1 season.
Max Verstappen is ready to kick-off another season with Red Bull at their home ground Red Bull Arena, Spielberg, Austria and before the start of the season, he talks about competition with Mercedes.
In a conversation with the Skysports, the Dutch driver spoke on several topics but gave assertive replies when talked about his team’s rivalry with the Mercedes and Ferrari.
When asked about a potential duel between Mercedes and Red Bull, with Ferrari showing a bit decline, Verstappen claimed that his team will try to come close.
“Of course we have to wait and see because there have been no races in the last few months. There will continuous updates to the cars. Nevertheless, I expect Mercedes very strongly and hope that we will be close.” said Verstappen.
Mercedes has also been tipped as the favourites before the start of the season and their dominance at the current rate is not slowing down, but Red Bull being ambitious is also being realistic as seen in the statement by Verstappen.
Apart from this, he was even asked about Sebastian Vettel’s departure from Ferrari, which will be enforced after the end of this season and he will be replaced by Carlos Sainz.
“I also expected that he would drive there for another year or two, but Ferrari decided that. That is, of course, a great opportunity for Carlos Sainz. Now we will see what Seb does.” he said.

Meanwhile, he also talked about Mercedes testing with their 2018 car and shed light on his team not doing the same and how he got his hands back on the steering.
