“Masvidal missed a big opportunity”- Daniel Cormier explains why Jorge Masvidal shouldn’t have turned down title match
“Masvidal missed a big opportunity”- Daniel Cormier explains why Jorge Masvidal shouldn’t have turned down title match and how it could have helped with his grievances.
Dana White has been dealing with Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal over their contract renegotiations. The pair have fallen out with the UFC president over a pay dispute and have made their grievances public. Interestingly, both these fighters are managed by the same company.

Both Jones and Masvidal are managed by First Round Management. Which according to some is a good thing because it allows the company to get behind both fighters at once and advocate a higher pay for them. However, Daniel Cormier believes that this has instead been detrimental to Masvidal.
Both Jones and Masvidal have entirely different resumes and their contracts should have been dealt with separately. Cormier is of the opinion that Jones may eventually get what he wants because of his sparkling CV. Masvidal on the other hand, was completely wrong in foregoing his welterweight title match with Kamaru Usman,
The match has since gone to Gilbert Burns instead.
Daniel Cormier explains how Jon Jones and Jorge Masvidal’s grievances differ
“That’s the problem, especially because him and Jones are managed by the same person, so if they’re taking the same approach, they’re vastly different people,” Cormier said on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“Jones has been champion for so long, he’s done so many things, he’s got so much more financial security, and ultimately the UFC has to come to the table because you’re holding the belt.
“As long as you have the belt, people got to come back to you to talk to you. You’re the champ. I do believe that (Masvidal) misses a big opportunity.”
