Kohli and Kumble ask the BCCI to give a huge pay rise to its cricketers
Earlier today, news broke out that Kohli and Kumble asked the BCCI to give a huge pay rise to its cricketers. Indian skipper Virat Kohli was joined by chief coach Anil Kumble, as the pair demanded the BCCI to give a 150% pay rise to the Grade ‘A’ players under central contracts. They also wanted a substantial increase in the remuneration for the support staff behind the team.
Kumble gave a detailed presentation to the Committee of Administrators(CoA) in Hyderabad. Several high rankings BCCI officials, including CEO Rahul Johri, treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary and joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary were present at the presentation.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli was not present in Hyderabad, but he did interact with the officials via Skype. In the current set up, the Grade ‘A’ players earn Rs 2 crore, while the Grade ‘B’ and ‘C’ players earn Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh respectively.
As per sources, Kohli and Kumble feel that the Grade ‘A’ players should earn around Rs 5 crore for a season.
“Although Anil and Virat spoke separately, both stressed on the fact that performers in Test cricket should be kept in the highest bracket. Also there is someone like Cheteshwar Pujara, who is not getting IPL contracts whereas someone like Pawan Negi, who doesn’t even play Ranji Trophy gets Rs 8.5 crore for 45 days. That’s something that needs to be worked out,” a senior BCCI source in the know of things told PTI.
“I won’t quote the figure but it’s a substantial raise that Kumble has demanded for himself also. Now while raising the issue of players, whether it was prudent on Kumble’s part to demand hike for support staff of which he is a direct beneficiary is a question,” an official questioned.
The final call will be jointly taken by the CoA and the BCCI panel. They will consider the proposal and come up with a decision before the Sri Lanka series.
