Twitter reactions on MS Dhoni's fighting IPL half-century

Twitter reactions on MS Dhoni’s fighting IPL half-century: Twitter was delighted to see the Super Kings captain play a responsible innings.

During the 12th match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at Chennai, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored his 21st IPL half-century to aid his team to post a competitive total on the board.

After Royals captain won the toss and put the hosts in to bat, RR pacers reduced CSK to 27/3 in the fifth over. Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the fifth over, Dhoni initially stitched a 61-run partnership with vice-captain Suresh Raina for the second wicket.

At the halfway mark, Chennai had scored a slow 55/3 primarily because of the prevailing conditions at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. Given the sluggish nature of the wicket, the batsmen had no option than to get their feet in before going for their shots. Dhoni seemed to be following the same as he had scored 10* (13) in the first 10 overs.

On the third ball of the 12th over, Dhoni pulled a Jaydev Unadkat delivery along the ground to score his first boundary. In Unadkat’s next over, Dhoni plummered another short delivery down the ground to give signs of opening up.

Post Raina’s dismissal, Dhoni took the mantle on to him as he gave impression of batting with more authority. On the first ball of the penultimate over, Dhoni hit a Jofra Archer delivery on the off-side to bring up his half-century.

The pinnacle of Dhoni’s innings came in the last over of when he hit Unadkat for three sixes to propel Super Kings to 175/5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Remaining unbeaten till the end, Dhoni ended up scoring 75* (46) with the help of four fours and four sixes. Given the conditions, it will require a mountainous effort on the part of Royals to chase the total.
