The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 continues to allure contrasting statements despite speculations of postponement of the event. Originally scheduled to begin on October 18 in Australia, the world event is likely to face the wrath of the COVID-19 outbreak and its consequences.

ICC’s (International Cricket Council) indecision on the future of the tournament has seen it receiving all kinds of murmurs. With ICC already deferring the decision to take a final call in its recent meeting, an official announcement regarding the same is likely to happen next month.

Despite Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ehsan Mani and Cricket Australia Chairman Earl Eddings speaking against conducting the ICC T20 World Cup this year, CA’s interim CEO Nick Hockley has showed keen interest in allowing crowds for the world event provided it happens this year.

“The reality is, and we’ve got much more understanding about this in recent weeks, is crowds are most likely to come back before international travel. Our biggest challenge is getting 15 teams into the country,” Hockley was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Much like Mani, Hockley admitted that conducting a world event consisting of 16 teams as a “complex exercise” in times of playing inside bio-secure environments.

“If I compare it with the prospect of a bilateral tour, you’re talking about bringing one team in and then playing individual matches. But the prospect of bringing 15 teams in and having six or seven teams in one city at the same time, it’s a much more complex exercise,” Hockley added.

If CA are interested in hosting a World Cup in the presence of spectators, Hockley’s statement might further hint towards the tournament getting delayed by at least a year. Earlier, a Cricket Australia letter to ICC was also meant at postponement by a year according to The Times of India.
