Mohammad Hafeez tests negative for COVID-19: The veteran Pakistani batsman has tested negative a day after being declared positive by PCB.

Veteran Pakistan batsman Mohammad Hafeez was among the seven cricketers who were tested positive for COVID-19 according to Pakistan Cricket Board yesterday.

In addition to Hafeez, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hasnain, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Wahab Riaz and Imran Khan, three other Pakistani players resulting positive had even started to cast doubts on the future of the their tour of England.

In a stark turn of events, Hafeez now claims to have tested negative for COVID-19 on the back of a personal test for “second opinion” and “satisfaction”for himself and his family in Lahore.

Hafeez, 39, took to social media platform Twitter to announce the latest development regarding his health. In addition to the senior player, his family has also tested negative for coronavirus.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan are slated to travel to England on June 28. The players who have tested positive for COVID-19 haven’t been ruled out of the tour as they have the option of traveling at a later date provided they recover after 14 days and subsequently test negative for COVID-19.

In Hafeez’s case, it would be interesting to know when PCB decides to send him to England especially after his second Test. It was nearly a fortnight ago that Hafeez had opened up on delaying his international retirement if the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 gets delayed.

As far as the cricketing fraternity is concerned, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, former batsman Taufeeq Umar, former first-class player Zafar Sarfaraz, former Scotland spinner Majid Haq and veteran Bangladesh pacer Mashrafe Mortaza are some of the other names to have tested positive for COVID-19.
