“Would love to be available for it,” says Glenn Maxwell on playing IPL 2020
Glenn Maxwell on playing IPL 2020: The Australian all-rounder sees no reason to not play IPL 2020 if coronavirus-related concerns are addressed.
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has opened up on being mentally ready for all forms of cricket after the COVID-19 hiatus. “To be home was a bit of a luxury at this time of the year. I’ve actually had a great time, freshened up the batteries and the mind as well.
“I was always mentally getting myself ready for this time of year when there would potentially be cricket back on,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by The Daily Telegraph.
Maxwell, 31, was among few other high-profile names to have found their names in Australia’s 26-member preliminary squad for the tour of England in September. With his Lancashire contract being called-off due to the global crisis, Maxwell is likely to travel to Australia for a white-ball tour.

“I haven’t been thinking about where we are going to end or who we are going to be playing. It was about getting my game ready, my body ready, and making sure I was ready for any series,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell, who had opined against playing the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 without spectators, expressed disappointment with respect to the tournament getting postponed by a year.
“Any time you have a home World Cup you are certainly looking forward to it . We felt like we had been building towards it as a T20 side,” Maxwell further said.
Having fetched a whopping INR 10.75 crore to play for Kings XI Punjab in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League, Maxwell has all but made himself available for IPL 2020 provided all the coronavirus-related concerns are taken care of.
“You wait and see [with the IPL], waiting on the judgments of other people, what you can and can’t do with travel and quarantine times and all that, if everything gets ticked off there I have no real reason no to go.
“The overseas guys get a hell of a kick playing in it, some of the bets players in the world rubbing shoulders, similar to a World Cup, but on a smaller scale. If everything gets ticked off I would love to be available for it,” Maxwell added.
It is being speculated that IPL 2020 will follow Australia’s tour of England to ensure that both English and Australian players travel from England to UAE (probable venue) in a chartered plane.
Maxwell, who skipped last year’s IPL to focus on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, will be representing Kings XI for the second time in the cash-rich league. In 52 T20s for Punjab from 2014-17, Maxwell had scored 1,186 runs at an average of 25.78 and a strike rate of 167.28 including six half-centuries.
