Parthiv Patel

Veteran Indian wicket keeper Parthiv Patel has finally shared his thoughts about his career span coinciding with that of Dhoni and the implications of that.

Parthiv Patel is like clouds. He is seldom stable. Moving from one franchise to the other, Parthiv has always been on the go in the IPL. This year he made a comeback to his old franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Although he did not get to play in the initial games due to South African wicket keeper Quinton de kock, when he got a chance, he proved that he still had a lot of cricket left in him by playing a couple of useful knocks. As a result, he retained his spot in the side till the last match of RCB.

Parthiv is a pretty handy opening batsman. Being a left hander, he has an advantage over most batsman as he provides the team with left right opening partnership. In the power plays, he can manipulate the field very well. As Patel cuts and pulls well, he can maximize the power play overs and score some quick runs.

Patel was one of many wicket keepers including Dinesh Karthik and Deep Dasgupta who made their debut well before MS Dhoni came into the picture. It would be fair to say that they did not grab their chances as they had to make way for Dhoni. Rest is history.

Parthiv Patel recently featured in Gaurav Kapoor’s popular show Breakfast with champions. In the show, Patel talked about his struggles and his journey in cricket till now which will complete two decades in the next year.

Talking about Dhoni, Patel said, “People say that you are very unfortunate to be born in the same era as Dhoni. However, I do not believe it. I think that if we (I am Dinesh) who got the chances before him would have played to our potential, Dhoni might never have got a chance. So it is our mistake and I accept it. This is the way I like to think”

This attitude received applauds from Gaurav as well who believed that this was a great way of thinking and taking the onus on yourself rather than blaming it on others. Patel last played a Test match against South Africa which happened to be the third and the final Test of the series. The chances of his International comeback may be far and few but he can still be a valuable asset in the IPL.
