Daniel Pineda batters Herbert Burns to script upset win at UFC 252. The Pit returned to the UFC for the first time since 2014 with a surprise victory.
Herbert Burns, brother of Gilbert Burns, is not having the best of weekends. He missed weight on Friday and lost 20% of his purse to Daniel Pineda. Pineda then went on to beat him in the second round with a second-round TKO finish despite the odds heavily stacked against him.

Burns has a reputation as a grappler to look out for. Pineda on the other hand had just been promoted from the prelims to the main card and was fighting in the UFC for the first time since 2014. Not many would have expected him to overpower the featherweight prospect but that is exactly what happened.

The two exchanged early in the first round with Burns starting with a kick. Burns continued to go on the offence but Pineda managed to get take him down. He remained in control for the rest of the round and continued to mount offence.
Burns got an early takedown in the second round. He looked to land ground and pound. However, Pineda eventually managed to reverse after struggling to get back up for a while. With two minutes left in the round, Pineda transitioned to a crucifix position and began to slam his opponent with elbows and hammerfists.
Referee Mark Smith eventually stepped in and called off the match, handing the win to Daniel Pineda.
