This Is Why Agassi Believes That Djokovic Can Win Wimbledon This Year

12 months ago, Novak Djokovic was well on his way to becoming one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. He could not stop winning games, and seemed almost invincible. So much so that when he finally won the French Open last year, many people believed that Djokovic should be recognized as one of the all time great singles players in history.

But then a stunning loss in the Rio Olympics started the problems, as the Serb’s season rapidly started to unravel. In next to no time he lost his world number one ranking to And Murray and although he hoped that things would improve at the turn of the year, he was rudely mistaken.

As the losses started piling up, Djokovic realized that he needed to take some drastic action after which he appointed Andre Agassi as his coach. Although his player seems to be in the middle of a career crisis, Agassi believes that Djokovic could definitely win his fourth Wimbledon title this year.

“Can a guy like this objectively find his way back to the trophy? Heck, yeah he could. Of course that could happen. That’s the plan, that’s always the plan – to get better – and the belief in winning has to be yours and yours alone. I think there’s enough momentum that could build to give that particular dream, hope or objective a real shot” said Agassi.

Agassi feels that Novak’s history and undeniable quality makes it certain that he can win the prestigious tournament and return to the pinnacle of men’s tennis. Agassi also feels that Novak’s thoughtfulness about the game gives him an edge over the others.

“Novak is a deep feeler and a deep thinker – and they need to be lined up. He sees himself as incredibly good but doesn’t quite understand the magic of when it all works together on and off court yet.”

No matter what happens at Wimbledon, Agassi said he is convinced Djokovic will be back on top sooner rather than later. “I’m not interested as much in performance in the short term,” he added. “I’m interested in getting back to everything he knows he is as a tennis player. You’ve just got to give him the tools to see it. I have a great deal of confidence. I don’t worry about finding the solutions.”
