Shikhar Dhawan run-out vs KXIP: The senior opening batsman was involved in a huge mix-up in the second over tonight.

During the second match of the ongoing 13th season of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab in Dubai, Delhi Capitals opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan departed without contributing to start his season on a disappointing note.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the second over when Dhawan gloved a short ball from Kings XI Punjab fast bowler Mohammed Shami to opposition captain and wicket-keeper Lokesh Rahul.

With Rahul dropping the catch, Dhawan expressed interest in sneaking a run. However, him not watching the ball saw him getting involved in a huge mix-up with non-striker Prithvi Shaw. Initially, Dhawan was slightly encouraged by Shaw responding to his call but the former just didn’t followed his partner’s call.

In the meantime, Rahul collected the ball and lobbed it back to the stumps where the Krishnappa Gowtham ran in from mid-wicket and dislodged the bails with Dhawan nowhere in the frame.

Since then, Capitals have also lost Shaw (5) and Shimron Hetmyer (7) to Shami’s dominating first spell as Kings XI justified their decision of winning the toss and bowling first.
