League of Legends World Prize Pool 2020: How is the LOL Worlds Prize Pool Distributed?

League of Legends World Championship is just around the corner. With top teams in the fray who will take away the Summoner’s Cup and the multi-million-dollar cash prize this year?

The World Championships are watched by millions of fans worldwide. It has gained tremendous popularity and prestige over the years. The Summoner’s Cup might well be the most coveted trophy in the Esports world. About 99.6 million people watched the 2018 LoL World Championships.

Lets take a look at what the many Esports teams take home from the prize money pool after being crowned League of Legends World Champions –

The Summoner’s Cup –

The winners of the Championship get to lift the Summoner’s Cup. It is around 32kg or 70 pounds in weight and is one of the biggest trophies not just in Esports but all sports worldwide. It was introduced in 2012 for the Season Two Championship. A video was released detailing the making of the Cup on YouTube. It was created by trophy creators Thomas Lyte in London.

The multi-million-dollar prize money –

With the Championships attracting millions of viewers one can expect a very large prize pool. The first World Champions had a prize pool of $98500. This amount is dwarfed over the years with the highest so far being 2018 Championships. The initial prize pool of the tournament is $2,225,000 USD with addition of in game skins and revenue the total prize pool was $6,450,000 USD. The same trend was seen in 2019 and a multi-million- dollar payout can be expected for 2020 as well.
