‘Kyle Kuzma wants a sizeable new deal from the Lakers’: NBA Analyst on if LeBron James and co. would trade Kuzma
Lakers’ Forward Kyle Kuzma is looking for a ‘sizeable’ extension on his rookie contract, something that the Lakers might not agree with.
Kyle Kuzma was the 27th pick of the 2017 NBA Draft. The 6’8″ forward has been one of the revelations from the 2017 draft class and still continues to impress. Till the Anthony Davis trade, Kuzma was averaging over 15 points per game in his first two years in the league.

If the contract extension was to be signed last year, the Lakers would have given Kuzma a ‘no-brainer sizeable extension’. However. ever since ADs arrival in LA, Kyle Kuzma’s role has been impacted severely. He was tipped to be the 3rd scorer on the team, but in the playoffs, he just couldn’t get going.
With his role limited to that of a bench player, the Lakers would be tempted to see what they could get in exchange of Kuzma in the trade market.
Would the Lakers give Kuzma the deal he wants?
The Lakers have a tough call to make. Kyle Kuzma is a good player, but as of now, they don’t have much use for him. He plays at the same position as LeBron James or Anthony Davis.
Moreover, Kuzma feels that he deserves a sizeable new deal from the Lakers, something that could further force the Lakers front office to trade him elsewhere.

“From what I understand, [he] is expecting a sizable deal, hoping for a sizable deal.”

The question that arises, ‘do the Lakers see a future for Kyle Kuzma in LA?’
They have one more year on his rookie contract which hey could choose to play out or they could include Kuzma as part of a lucrative trade deal.
The negotiations for the contract would start this winter, where the Lakers would have to take a call on Kuzma’s future. The most popular opinion is that the Lakers might make a trade package around this year’s draft pick, Kuzma, and some salary filler for a good role player.
Nothing can be said for certain right now, but this situation is worth keeping a close eye on.
