Ferrari F1: Mattia Binotto supports Red Bull’s Honda power unit freeze, but with a caveat
Ferrari F1 Team Principal Mattia Binotto has indicated its support for Red Bull’s Honda power unit freeze, but only if a condition is fulfilled by the FIA.
Red Bull have got an unlikely ally in their campaign to freeze power units once Honda leaves F1 – Ferrari. Team Principal Mattia Binotto has lent his support to allow Red Bull to buy the Honda power unit IP and using it. Ferrari was earlier against this, as was/is Renault.
“I think what we have said is there are already regulations in place where somehow Red Bull got a solution to be supplied by other manufacturers, that is no doubt. We understand as well the intention to keep using the Honda engine for the future. We have had meetings in the last days with F1 and the FIA. I think, as Ferrari, we understand the situation.”

Ferrari, in turn, wants the new power unit regulations to be brought up a year to 2025. This is the bargain Binotto is offering, adding Ferrari is acting “in a responsible way’ with their support to ‘rivals’ Red Bull.
“That would mean as well to anticipate to 2025 the new regulations for the power unit.”
“So, knowing the situation, understanding the situation, it is not the first time that Ferrari has acted in a responsible way in that respect so we will support freezing by anticipating by one year the power units.”
