‘Al Capone’: Damian Lillard does not believe Paul George wants to retire with Clippers despite his statement
Damian Lillard responds to Paul George saying he wants to retire as a Los Angeles Clipper; says he doesn’t believe it.
In a year’s time, the Los Angeles Clippers have completely shifted the narrative surrounding their team. Going into the 2019-20 NBA season, the Clippers were viewed as the ‘deepest’ team in the league.
Now, following their 2nd round meltdown against the Nuggets, the only thing the Clips are known for is their unresolved chemistry issues. The countless number of comments made by the 2019-20 Clippers squad on this hasn’t helped the narrative die down either.
Paul George was especially scrutinized for some of his atrocious performances in the Playoffs last year. George has slowly started to open up to the media about the difficulties he faced last year.
He has also talked about his future with the team.
Damian Lillard calls ‘cap’ on Paul George’s statement.
Paul George has been all over the place on what went wrong last year. He stated that he wanted a bigger role with the Clippers, such as more pick and roll action. Paul George shot 33% from the field on pick and rolls last season.
Now, when asked about what his plans are with the Clippers in the future, he said, “I want to retire as a Clipper.”
With all the turmoil surrounding the Clippers organization, it’s strange that the 2019 MVP candidate would want this statement to be out there.
Damian Lillard heard about this and immediately pitched in and said, “Al Capone.” Dame is implying that he doesn’t believe Paul George and is calling ‘cap’.

Will Paul George retire as a Clipper?
This is of course quite hard to assess. George is no stranger to going back on his word. He signed a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder and demanded a trade to the Clips merely a year later.
Other NBA stars have also come out and ‘promised’ to stay with an organization. Most recently, Kyrie Irving with the Cavaliers and the Celtics.
If the Clippers continue to come up short in the postseason, it would not be surprising if Paul jumps ship once again.
