Ex WWE producer reveals Daniel Bryan’s original opponent at Wrestlemania 35 before Kofimania. The New Day veteran was not the first choice.
Kofi Kingston brought the wrestling world to their feet with his performances on the road to Wrestlemania 35. The adoring crowd pushed him to the WWE title picture and he would eventually prise the coveted championship off of Daniel Bryan at the Showcase of the Immortals.

However, Kofi was not pencilled in as Bryan’s wrestlemania opponent. His involvement in the title picture was supposed to end at Elimination chamber. However, the crowd reaction to him and Bryan being the final two participants in the match forced the WWE to change the storyline.

“The electricity from that, them being the last two in the Elimination Chamber [in] an arena in Houston. I literally couldn’t watch it on the monitor anymore. It was so electric, “former WWE producer Shawn Daivari told the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast.
“I walked out in the crowd, watched it from behind the curtain because I wanted to feel. You literally feel vibration when you’re standing in front of a speaker at a concert. You feel the vibration of the crowd reaction when something’s rumbling and I don’t get reactions like that anymore so I’m trying to steal pops from the other guys. I went out there. I wanted to get the goosebumps and feel that.
“The next SmackDown, Kevin Owens would’ve come back and Kevin Owens and Daniel Bryan would’ve wrestled at WrestleMania, “Daivari revealed. “It might’ve been good, it might’ve been bad, it might’ve been indifferent. Probably would’ve been great. The audience, that electricity made Kofi Mania happen and as we know, that turned out f*cking amazing.”
While it had long been reported that Owens was the planned challenger for Bryan’s WWE title, this is the first ever confirmation of the report. Considering Kofi took Mustafa Ali’s place in the booking, it was believed that perhaps Ali was meant to win the title. However, this clears it up.
