“Jeremy Lin breathed life back into the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony couldn’t”: When Warriors’ Steve Kerr took a dig on Melo in 2012

Steve Kerr commended Jeremy Lin for “breathing life” back into the New York Knicks, and said Carmelo Anthony could never do the same.

News broke out last night that Jeremy Lin will be working his way back to the NBA, from the CBA. He will be signing with the Golden State Warriors G-League affiliate to start this 2020-21 season.

To commemorate this, it’ll be fun to look back at what the Knicks were like 8 years ago, with Jeremy Lin going off for them. The days of ‘Linsanity’ are gone, but not forgotten. The 5 game stretch where Harvard University alum Jeremy Lin absolutely torched teams, might be the single greatest stretch of games in the 2010s for the Knicks.

Steve Kerr was found to be quite mesmerized by the young star during the Linsanity era.

Steve Kerr said Jeremy Lin did more for the Knicks in 2012 than Carmelo

Back in 2012, when Kerr used to do press for TNT along with Shaq, he had a couple quotes regarding the situation in New York.

Kerr didn’t hold back as he said, “Lin has definitely made for an incredible storyline, given that he’s breathed life back into the franchise where Carmelo Anthony didn’t.”

Lin’s play was so spectacular that 5 game stretch that that Kerr even lobbied for established stars Carmelo and Amar’e to take “lesser roles”.

8 years later, Lin could be playing under the now Golden State Warriors coach, Steve Kerr. He has signed a contract with the team and will be playing with the Santa Cruz Warriors before easing his way into the first team.

Though he went undrafted, Lin eventually signed a 2 year deal with the Golden State Warriors in 2010.

He was sent down to the D-league 3 times in his rookie season. He eventually worked his way back up the Warriors.

In 29 games with the Warriors, Lin averaged 2.6 points on 39% shooting from the field.
