“That’s called appointment television” – Eric Bischoff criticizes AEW and WWE for advertising their storylines
Eric Bischoff criticizes AEW and WWE for advertising their storylines in advance. Instead he suggested an alternative to both companies.
Before there was AEW, there was WCW. If there ever was a time you thought the WWE was gonna close its shop, it was when WCW was running its business. The man in charge of the company at the time was none other than Eric Bischoff.

Bischoff sees several things wrong in the business today. One of them he believes is advertising matches and storylines instead of slowly unfolding them in front of fans. He addressed the issue on the latest episode of his 83 Weeks podcast.
Eric Bischoff criticizes AEW and WWE for advertising their storylines
The former WCW Head honcho spoke about how they made great use of live television to keep their fans engrossed and engaged. He cited NWO as an example of great television that the WCW came up with on their weekly programming.
He slagged both AEW and WWE for showing their hand before fans get to see them on television and complained that they should instead focus on writing a good story.
“That’s called appointment television,” he said. “That’s why you’re live and when whether it’s WWE or AEW, there I go I said I wasn’t gonna name them. When I see them advertising something that really doesn’t have any story, there’s no buildup, there’s no journey involved, you’re just advertising a match.
“There’s not a story, the draw isn’t big enough on its own so what do we do? Oh, let’s just promote it. Let’s make sure the audience knows what we’re gonna do. Well, how about instead of that, how about creating a really good story that feels like it’s combusting spontaneously before your eyes in the moment?”
